Our Story

the Fall River Fire Museum’s (FRFM) new home housed a fire and police sub-station when it was built in 1873 and is listed on the National Register of Historical Places. Anawan no. 6 was designed by Harwell and Swazey, in the italianate style and was the longest full manned fire station in the United States until it closed in 2002.

The FRFM was formed in 2007 by a group of dedicated volunteers consisting mostly of firefighters having a shared passion in the restoration of Anawan no. 6 and the creation of a fire museum at this location. Since it’s founding, the museum’s board of directors have been actively seeking funds through our awareness events, fundraisers, grants, and the awarding of the Community Preservation Act (CPA) funding to accomplish our goals. The fire museum is under construction and is not currently open to the public.

We are a member of the Fire Museum Network. this National organization provides a means for networking among fire museums and promotes the interests of those dedicated to collecting, preserving, and interpreting the history, artifacts, and traditions of the fire service.
